Schertz homeowners allege shoddy construction, demand buy back
Karen Grace Reports

SCHERTZ -- At least 17 homeowners in the city of Schertz packed into a city hall meeting Tuesday night. They are demanding that the home builder Pulte buy back their homes.

The residents are complaining their foundations have separated and water was discovered under the surface. They want Pulte to correct the problem.

Residents revealed pictures during the meeting of their roofs peeling away, and cracks that start outside and make their way deep into the walls. Residents in the Fairhaven subdivision said these problems are only the surface of foundation problems they are dealing with.

“It’s a nightmare,” said Shertz Mayor Hal Baldwin.

Many residents are demanding that Pulte buy back their homes. Diana Taylor is leading the group. She wants to know why homes were built where they were in the first place, as water was discovered below her foundation.

“I want my home bought back,” Taylor said. "I want them to put me in another home.”

But a spokesman for Pulte said that is not on the table.

“No,” said Laurin Darnell. “We stand by our neighborhood."

Instead, Pulte has hired a third party independent engineer to recommend ways to fix foundation problems, including installing extra drainage.

“We’ve had a record setting drought,” Darnell added. “That created a challenge with expansive soil.”
