City officials say a nearby retaining wall was illegally and incorrectly built...The retaining wall is not causing any problems right now. However, city inspectors told News 4 WOAI if the wall were to fail, it could cause some major damage to Wurzbach Parkway.

SAN ANTONIO -- A retaining wall that sits just feet away from a Northeast Side sports stadium is the cause for some big concerns.

Heroes Stadium is near Wurzbach Parkway and Thousand Oaks. City officials say a nearby retaining wall was illegally and incorrectly built.

          

After the failure of a retaining wall in the Hills of Rivermist subdivision on the Northwest Side, the inspectors have been looking at retaining walls and following up on any concerns or complaints.

News 4 WOAI Trouble Shooter Mireya Villarreal obtained a list of all of the neighborhoods city inspectors have recently visited. The list includes a retaining wall near David Edwards Drive and Wurzbach Parkway. Although the retaining wall is only about 4.5 feet tall at some points and about 600 feet long, it is holding up a lot of soil underneath Wurzbach Parkway. City officials say the wall is only a few years old but is already showing signs of buckling, including large cracks and separation.

Officials with the Northeast Independent School District say the property where the wall was built does not belong to them. We did some checking and found out a developer named Bitter Blue constructed the wall. We tried to get a hold of them, but they have not returned our calls.

The city has told Bitter Blue they need to tear down the retaining wall and rebuild it correctly. Bitter Blue said they need to submit plans and pull a permit before doing all of that.

The retaining wall is not causing any problems right now. However, city inspectors told News 4 WOAI if the wall were to fail, it could cause some major damage to Wurzbach Parkway.
