Americas Watchdog & Its Homeowners Consumer Center have been the leaders in a national, and state by state investigation of toxic Chinese drywall in Florida, Virginia and numerous other US states. In 2004 there was a shortage of US drywall, because of the US housing boom. Hurricane Katrina made the drywall shortage even worse, with desperate homeowners in the gulf states wishing to rebuild their homes. US homebuilders had already been importing toxic Chinese drywall.
