LITCHFIELD PARK, AZ - Some West Valley residents are painting their grass green in an effort to avoid being fined by their homeowner's association.
âItâs petty, thatâs what I think,â said one resident who asked that we not use his identity.
âIt wasnât a big deal,â countered another.
Letters started going out a few weeks ago to dozens, if not hundreds of homeowners living in Litchfield Park's Dreaming Summit, reminding them that green grass is one of the contract agreements. Homeowners pay upwards of $150 a month to live in the area.
Homeowners say they will face fines or even possible lawsuits if they donât strictly follow the HOA's guidelines.
âI understand the compliance to keep up the area,â said David, who asked us not to use his last name. âI will probably paint my grass then eventually tear it up and go with a desert landscape of rocks.â
HOA spokesperson Phil Gardener said by phone, âthis is a non-storyâ and that he had no comment.
After a drive through parts of the area, it looked like about half the homes with grass were in compliance, either painting their grass green or planting winter grass to keep up appearances.
The HOAâs website says it has nearly 1,800 homes in the association.
