Homebuilders to Hire Qualified Workers
Poor Home Construction Rampant in Metro Market
LAS VEGAS, June 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Teamsters Local 631 is calling on the Las Vegas home-construction industry to improve its workforce through training and hiring of qualified homebuilders. Local 631 is working in conjunction with the Raising the Standard of Living (RSL) labor union coalition to tackle the growing problems in the Las Vegas homebuilding industry.
The coalition is working to end the epidemic of shoddy home construction that has plagued the Las Vegas market in recent years. Newly passed Nevada legislation requires homebuilders to resolve all structural defects and code violations reported by consumers within a specified period of time.
"Unfortunately, apathy toward consumers and noncompliance by the construction companies has become more the rule rather than the exception," said Ray Isner, political coordinator for Teamsters Local 631 in Las Vegas.
The RSL coalition is providing inspection services to homeowners to help identify code violations and structural defects. It is the intent of the Teamsters and the coalition to ensure that these problems are addressed and resolved by the construction companies.
The only way to stem the tide of this shoddy workmanship by homebuilders is to hire and train a competent workforce. The ultimate objective of the RSL coalition is to incorporate mandated education and training for trade workers in the construction industry. If the construction is done right the first time, these problems would cease to exist.
The cost of training and hiring of qualified workers is a small price to pay for builders to keep inferior home construction out of the Las Vegas market.
