Mold problems get attention in New York

New York Launches Investigation of Toxic Mold
In a name that sounds more like something from a super heroes comic than anything spawned by government, a newly formed 14-member panel will taken on the threat from toxic molds in New York. The Toxic Mold Task Force will soon meet with the  goal of studying the problem and preparing a report for the governor, reports Newsday. New York State legislators had urged the panel be formed back in 1995, after hearing complaints of debilitating exposure to potentially lethal indoor air.

New York Launches Investigation of Toxic Mold

The potentially lethal indoor air polluter goes under the microscope

In a name that sounds more like something from a super heroes comic than anything spawned by government, a newly formed 14-member panel will taken on the threat from toxic molds in New York. The Toxic Mold Task Force will soon meet with the  goal of studying the problem and preparing a report for the governor, reports Newsday.

New York State legislators had urged the panel be formed back in 1995, after hearing complaints of debilitating exposure to potentially lethal indoor air.

A national and international problem, potentially toxic mold has been in the news a lot over the past few years, in part because of fallout from Katrina and other storms and flooding. A number of celebs have also been plagued with the problem in their homes, from Erin Brockovich to Ed McMahon and others.

The fact that one of the country's biggest states is taking a serious look at mold is good news. But that certainly doesn't mean homeowners should wait before thinking about the problem. It may be a good time to carefully check your dwelling to make sure you don't have any leaks, cracks or other possible sources of moisture.

If you find mold, it's a good idea to call a professional in to do some testing, especially if you have children or folks with compromised respiratory or immune systems in the house.
