Arbitration Fairness Act 2007
Wednesday, 18 July 2007

Press Conference: Senator Feingold and Congressman Johnson File Arbitration Bill

Senator Feingold delivers opening remarks at press conference, proclaiming that
the Arbitration Fairness Act is aimed at addressing this problem across the board.
That Americans will once again have a choice.

Joan Claybrook of Public Citizen praises Arbitration Fairness act. "Today consumers
face a terrible environment, they are being denied access to a court or jury. Business
has privatizes justice that has produced no justice.  One California arbitrator in 532
cases studied found for consumers only 1.14% of the time."

Congressman Hank Johnson stands with Consumer Advocates as Joan Claybrook
concludes her remarks. Referring to the Arbitration Fairness Act as critical
legislation Congressman Johnson went on to say that “over recent years I have
witnessed a pacification of arbitration cases.  In this legal arena big companies
almost always win and consumers almost always lose. Simply speaking Mandatory
Arbitration is an anchor and albatross around the necks of consumers. It’s time to
put consumers on a level playing field and this legislation will do that.”

Sally Greenberg of consumer  Union  proclaims Mandatory Binding Arbitration
strips consumers of rights. “Corporate entities have worked so hard to deny
consumers access to the courts. They have created a private system of justice
set up by the business community for the benefit of the business community.
We must today call on Congress once again to right the wrongs being done
                        to consumers.”
