D.R. Horton Ripoff Contract Dispute Pulls Contracts ripoff Jacksonville Florida
*Consumer Comment ..I wouldn't want to do business with you either...In the mist of signing the contract we were informed we had to sign a paper stating you had to use D.R. Horton mortgage company or only 8 other lenders they aprove of. So basically one can not use any mortgage company they want to go with. Of course up until this point we were only told that if you didn't use D.R. Horton mortgage company then D.R. Horton would pay none of the closing costs.
Ripoff Report: D.R. Horton
Well, my husband and I went to purchase a home with D.R. Horton. In the mist of signing the contract we were informed we had to sign a paper stating you had to use D.R. Horton mortgage company or only 8 other lenders they aprove of. So basically one can not use any mortgage company they want to go with. Of course up until this point we were only told that if you didn't use D.R. Horton mortgage company then D.R. Horton would pay none of the closing costs.
The next day after signing the contract (Yes, we signed the paper) we felt the needed still to call the corp. office at D.R. Horton to let them know how it made us as consumers feel. Well, I personally talked to a lady named Patty at the corp. office in Jacksonville, Fl. When talking to her she told me that she was going to pull my contract. At this point I did state that if she pulled our contract then I would find the need to tell my story to whoever would listen. That being the news, newspaper, family and friends...basically whoever will listen!
So at this point I hung up with her and called my husband to explained what happened then called the sales office to see if she could pull our contract. At this point I was informed she could pull our contract, put it should all be O.k..
Well, my husband and I the very next day went to the design center to pick out our colors and all that goes along with it. At the design center we had a very pleasent experience and Donna the lady who helped us was a real pleasure to work with.
Then the weekend came along my husband and I e-mailed family about the house, the colors we picked at the design center ect ect.
Monday at 5:15-5:30 pm we are told our contract is pulled. Of course leaving us no time to call the corp. office to fight for our side. We were told they knew our contract was pulled since the morning but wanted to wait to talk to us so they could devote the time to us.
So basically that night I left a message with a man named John at the corp office. The next day my husband first thing in the morning called Patty to see where we stood. Of course my husband had to leave a message and then call back again to talk to her. (Anyone who deals with D.R. Horton knows one leaves numerous messages with no return calls back)
Anyway, my husband spoke with Patty who just didn't want to hear anything about our side of the story. After speaking with Patty my husband then called John who is Patty's boss. Of ocurse again my husband had to leave a message and then call back again to talk to him. (Again surprise..surprise no return call)
John listened to my husband and said numerous things didn't add up, and we should have never even gone to pick out colors. he said he would go talk to Patty and call us back. Well, finally at 5:00-5:30 my husband gets a call back saying they are still pulling our contract. My husband asks why? He was told they are pulling our contract on fear we are going to go to the press and slander D.R. Horton name!
My husband and I have no desire to slander the D.R. Horton name. But I do think it is extremely bad business to pull one contract on a house just because one asks questions. So I would say if you want to build a house were you are told what mortgage companies you can use, and never feel like you can call managment and complain about anything then hey D.R. Horton is the builder for you.
But if you feel like you want to express your thoughts with no fear of your contract being pulled, and you want to decided who to give your mortgage business too the stay away from D.R. Horton.
At this point my husband and I are spreading our story to anyone who will listen. As we believe the power of one's voice, the swipe of a pen/pencil, and the strike of a keyboard can do more then any legal action.
So I say anyone who has had a problem with D.R. Horton or has read complaints about them. Stand up write letters, express your disgust with there treatment of costumers, or better yet use a different builder!

Don't worry we have moved on! I know they didn't hold a "gun" to my head. But I also think consumers should have the right to pick who they want as a mortgage lender. I think it is a blessing that they canceled our contract!!!! I also think it is very alarming that They have 64 BBB complaints about them.
I also think it is alarming when you hear from the people in the sales centers themseleves, that consumers are drop in fear that they will not rate D.R. Horton with 6's on constumer surveys.
Again...you have the right to your opinion as I do mine! I will be doing everything in my power to inform the public about the horrible customer service my husband and myself received from this company.
On a industry that strives on customer statisfaction this consumer has a LOUD voice with a strike of a keyboard, a swipe of a pen and pencil and we tend to use it all!
