CONSUMER ALERT
 National Association of Home Builders
NAHB and its lobbyist want to make sure Congress does not empower the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) with regulatory powers over its industry.   Their objective is to assure limitations of builder responsibility for use of defective products.  In a letter drafted with the usual building industry political style to the Speaker of the House over concerns with H.R. 4212, Contaminated Drywall Safety Act of 2012, which seeks to prevent the introduction of unsafe drywall, they state.

â€œNAHB is concerned with the absence of stakeholder input into H.R. 4212. The legislation has not gone through regular order, leaving industry experts and the public at large without an opportunity to evaluate the revised legislation.”

The first industry “trust us” myth crafted to avoid regulation and attempts to crush any federal effort to protect consumers (homebuyers) under law is as follows:

“NAHB is committed to offering a constructive role in resolving the issue of contaminated drywall. Since first learning of the problematic drywall in 2008, NAHB has been working aggressively to determine the scope of the potential problems, as well as ways in which the industry can address and resolve the issues. Today, our members continue to be responsive to homeowners and others who raise the question of whether drywall in their homes will cause or has caused problems.”
