Homeowners: Pulte Homes ignoring repair issues

Matt Rivers Reports
CIBOLO, Texas - An ongoing issue between homeowners and a home building company caused controversy Monday night.

People in Cibolo's Fairhaven neighborhood say Pulte Homes built shoddy houses and are trying to ignore their responsibility to fix them.

A meeting among homeowners packed a house, as dozens of people came together with Pulte Homes as one common gripe.

We've been fighting with Pulte for over four years," said homeowner Brian Benavides.

Brian Benavides and his wife Peggy had significant damage inside their home caused by unstable ground underneath.

It's caused their entire foundation to shift, making their house uneven and difficult to sell.

"You're selling them the problems that Pulte caused by building houses that just aren't of any quality," said Benavides.

Their problems are not unique.

Dozens of people have reported problems with their homes in that subdivision. Some have dealt with them for six months, others for five years.

A representative from Homeowners for Better Building, a non-profit advocate for homeowners, was in attendance to help the group organize to get results.

The first step will be to send letters to the company, officially declaring they'd like their homes bought back.

One more thing, to make matters even worse, Pulte seems to have sent a mole to our meeting, a gentleman that did not even own a property at Fairhaven showed up and spent the whole meeting trying to downplay the gravity of the situation, I could not believe that they would use such a strategy.

Thank you KSAT for putting this story out there, I am one of those homeowners, I am a veteran with four children, this is the first home that we ever own, we have so many dreams and now, right in front of our eyes, our small castle of tranquility, our largest investment is starting to fall apart. I just learned that it is possible that my VA loan was only approved because Pulte lied about the countermeasures that they had taken to counteract the dangers of building in the type of soil where Fairhaven was built. It is sad to me that we have become a society were greed seems to be overriding all other human instincts. Please, keep me and my family in your prayers.
