SAN ANTONIO â It is because of the ripped up and raggedy roads that Bexar County leaders say they have reached out to the builder and contractor of the Ventura Heights neighborhood off of FM-78. They are hoping to get some help for the homeowners.
âWe are trying to apply as much pressure as we can to resolve this,â said Bexar County Commissioner Tommy Adkisson.
At a meeting with Ventura Heights homeowners Thursday afternoon, County leaders revealed a temporary solution is in the works. âWe have had a pretty gracious proposal by one of the corporations. The paving company said they would like to be of help,â said Adkisson.
Commissioner Adkisson and the County Engineer told the group a paving contractor who previously worked in the subdivision says itâs sympathetic to their troubles. He says its verbally agreed to possibly patch up damage along the neighborhoodâs main street.
Some homeowners donât believe a temporary fix is enough. âBand-aids are not going to cure broken bones,â said Ventura Heights homeowner Robert Bernhard.
Bernhard says he and his neighbors are stuck between a rock and a hard place, since the developer never built the roads in Ventura Heights to county standards. Tax dollars can not go toward repairing the streets.
However, for now, some homeowners say a little something is better than dealing with the current street condition.
"As far as fixing the potholes that are the biggest problem, I believe that is a temporary solution that will aid the safety issue,â said Bernhard. âHowever, it will not aid with the long term effects of these streets being ruined.â
County leaders and the homeowners say they will continue applying as much pressure as they can to resolve the dangerous street problems.
