There is a detention pond behind Baeza's home which is producing some scary health and safety hazards. "This is a haven for water moccasin and other snakes, which we're already found 4." There are more problems breeding in the standing water. "As you can see, we have a gazillion tadpoles, we've got frogs, we've got a lot of 10-fold spiders coming out." Baeza says the pond near his home is also attracting leeches, mosquitos and other insects.News 4 WOAI found out the pond is on private property which the Hills of Shaenfield Home Owners Association is responsible for maintaining. However, Baeza says the HOA has been giving him the run-around over cleaning up the area.  County Code Compliance is issuing a violation notice

Neighbors claim HOA ignoring snake and insect problem caused by neglected pond
SAN ANTONIO - Some viewers in the Hills of Shaenfield say the problems in their neighborhood are so bad, they feel like their living near a swamp. They say it is all because of issues with their homeowners association's pond.

Just follow the backed-up drainage ditch behind Anthony Baeza's house on Geneva Ford, and he'll point out the huge problems. "There are weeds 7 to 8 feet tall," said Baeza. "We've got trees growing back here, and we've got all this trash. It stinks!"

There is a detention pond behind Baeza's home which is producing some scary health and safety hazards. "This is a haven for water moccasin and other snakes, which we're already found 4."

There are more problems breeding in the standing water. "As you can see, we have a gazillion tadpoles, we've got frogs, we've got a lot of 10-fold spiders coming out." Baeza says the pond near his home is also attracting leeches, mosquitos and other insects.

News 4 WOAI found out the pond is on private property which the Hills of Shaenfield Home Owners Association is responsible for maintaining. However, Baeza says the HOA has been giving him the run-around over cleaning up the area.

"I've been very patient on my side," Baeza said. "I've asked for plenty of help, and they refused to help, although I tell them there's children in danger. They don't seem to care."

Bexar County storm engineers inspected the pond and property this week. They tell News 4 WOAI they cited several problems in and around the pond due to he HOA's lack of maintenance over the years. Engineers say County Code Compliance is issuing a violation notice to the HOA, instructing them to mow high weeds along the pond to help minimize the snakes.

Baeza wants the are cleaned up quickly. "It's causing havoc for me, and my family, and my neighbors."

No one from the Hills of Shaenfield HOA has returned News 4 WOAI's calls about this story. The County's Code Compliance Office is giving the HOA 30 days to clean up the area.
