Pulte-Centex Rivermist houses show signs of foundation failure

Rivermist crack may be causing widespread foundation issues
The massive crack in the ground that's damaged more than a dozen homes in the Rivermist neighborhood is threatening to rip open an even-deeper financial rift for the home builder...Homeowners say they have seen problems for months, and those problems -- such as cracks in ceilings and the foundation -- have only gotten worse since the crack in the retaining wall opened up. Rivermist crack may be causing widespread foundation issues

The massive crack in the ground that's damaged more than a dozen homes in the Rivermist neighborhood is threatening to rip open an even-deeper financial rift for the home builder.

                 Christopher Heath Reports

The 27 homeowners that have been offered buybacks live directly above the crack in the wall or directly below it, but there are other homeowners who live across the street. They say they are seeing problems, and they point to the crack across the street as the reason why.

On Monday, an independent engineering firm arrived at the subdivision to check to see if other homes are having foundation issues as a result of the massive crack in the ground.

Homeowners say they have seen problems for months, and those problems -- such as cracks in ceilings and the foundation -- have only gotten worse since the crack in the retaining wall opened up. Using equipment to check for rises and drops in the foundation, engineers mapped out the homes.

For residents, the foundation checks are a first step. But they say the problems caused by the break in the wall still have not been addressed
