New details on the expanding bribery investigation into building inspectors for the city of San Antonio.
A top manager at the city's Planning and Development Services Office was questioned Friday by police and
FBI.
We've been talking to a source familiar with the investigation into city code inspectors and now we're revealing exclusive details about what's going on.
Fernando De Leon, an assistant director of the city's Planning and Development Services Office, is on administrative leave after he was questioned by police and FBI agents.
We're told De Leon was not directly taking bribes from developers, but instead allegedly found a way to scam the system for personal profit.
According to the source, investigators discovered that De Leon is secretly a partner in a company that helps builders expedite their city permits.
He was allegedly approving permits that had been denied and lowering permit prices so he and the company could pocket the profits.
Investigators have found several suspicious bank accounts tied to De Leon with large deposits.
The News 4 WOAI Trouble Shooters first told you last month that several city building inspectors are accused of taking bribes in exchange for passing work they never approved.
So far none of them, including deleon, has been charged with a crime.
We'll let you know what happens next.
