A subsidiary of Pulte Homes Inc. has settled a lawsuit brought by a labor union that alleged the nation’s largest homebuilder fired several construction workers because they were trying to join the union.

Pulte Building Systems, the subsidiary, denied any wrongdoing or liability in the case.

The workers, including six in Arizona, and four in Nevada, will receive more than $20,000 in back pay and benefits, according to the Laborers International Union of North America.

The complaints were filed with the National Labor Relations Board.

“Due to the recession and decline in the homebuilding industry, a number of employees were laid off from the company, including the employees in question,” Pulte Building Systems said in a statement. “Since they are not seeking reinstatement, which would be difficult given the layoffs of which they were part, the company agreed to settle the allegations and move forward.”
