Texas Residential Construction Commission (TRCC) Lobby Day & Press Conference
Friday, 29 August 2008
HomeOwners for Better Building Joins with Texas Watch and Coalition Partners
Join us for the Texas Residential Construction Commission (TRCC) Lobby Day & Press Conference on Tuesday, September 23, 2008

We all know that the Texas Residential Construction Commission is broken and homeowners are the ones paying the price.  On Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008, we have a unique opportunity to encourage lawmakers to make real reforms through the Sunset Review process.

After years of pressure from homeowners fed up with the lopsided TRCC process, the Sunset Commission staff has recommended that the
TRCC be abolished.  We will continue to work with our coalition partners to encourage lawmakers to adopt this important recommendation.

The Texas Residential Construction Commission (TRCC) is currently undergoing the Sunset Review process.  During this 18-month long procedure, the TRCC goes though intense review from the Sunset Advisory Commission.  The Commission — a group composed of five state representatives, five state senators, and two public members — will meet in December to adopt their own recommendations and determine what changes and improvements should be made to the agency.

Public input is a valued part of the Sunset Review.  As part of the review, the Sunset Commission is holding a public hearing on September 23rd about the TRCC that will be open for all Texans to attend.  This is an exciting opportunity for Texas Watch activists to get involved and be a part of this important process.

During our lobby day at the state capitol, you will have the chance to attend the Sunset Commission public hearing, participate in a press conference, and meet with your state legislators to have your voice heard.   Please bring a brief (one to two pages maximum), typed version of your story as written testimony to give to the Commission.

What: TRCC Sunset Lobby Day

Where: The state capitol, Austin, TX

When: September 23rd, 2008, from about 8 am to 5 pm

If you would like to attend the lobby day, it is very important that you RSVP to Texas Watch by September 16th so that we can make legislative appointments for all of our activists.  To RSVP or to get more details, please email Megan Morrow, Outreach Director, at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it or call us toll-free at 1-888-738-4226.
