TOMS RIVER
— A home builder from Westfield was sentenced today to 364 days in the Ocean County Jail for unlawfully diverting money paid to him by customers for homes he never completed in Harvey Cedars on Long Beach Island.

Superior Court Judge Wendel E. Daniels placed Louis Vanacore, 42, on probation for five years, ordered him to serve 364 days in the county jail as a condition of probation, and ordered him to repay a total of $169,311.87 to six victims — customers who paid for homes that were never completed and subcontractors who performed work but were not paid for it.

Vanacore pleaded guilty in January to three counts of failure to make the required disposition of funds received. At that time, he admitted to Daniels that he took money from customers who hired him for construction work in Harvey Cedars and diverted the money to other projects.
