Rapid growth is a big issue across the Bay area, and it's causing growing pains from Citrus to Manatee counties.
Single-family homes are popping up like daffodils in spring as more people head north of Tampa Bay.
According to Hernando County's building department, permits for single-family homes have more than doubled since last year.
In one week, the department received 174 permit applications. It usually gets that in a month.

| One woman who's having a home built said she can't get her house finished because builders are overloaded with work.
"I contracted in October of 2003," Ferol Falzone-Long said. "I was told I'd be in my house 300 days from when the permit was issued. I should have been in my house January 5. Okay, give them a couple of months, but now I'm on six."
Falzone-Long said that, on top of the delay she's experiencing, several things in her house have had to be redone because the building crew lacked supervision.
Joe Pastore with the Hernando County Builders Association said demand is so high, builders are struggling to get what they need to get their jobs done.
"It's hard to get material, sub-contractors," Pastore said. "Any builder trying to do his job gets hurt by these things that are out of their control."
Falzone-Long said she still doesn't know when her home will be finished. She's living in an RV on the property where her house is being built. She said she's getting nervous now that the 2005 hurricane season has started and she still hasn't moved into her house.
