Trump - NAHB Homebuilders Shoddy Construction and Forced Arbitration

Organizing your community to bring public attention to builder’s bad deeds and seeking assistance from local, state and federal elected officials has proven to be more effective and much quicker for thousands of families. You do have choices and alternatives.  Janet Ahmad

Chinese-made drywall causing economic, health and safety concerns
Friday, 16 January 2009

Drywall From China Raises Health, Safety Concerns
Chinese-made drywall imported during the height of the housing boom is suspected of being responsible for the corrosion and failure of metal components, as well as foul odors, in homes in the Sarasota area and down both coasts of Florida. State and federal health officials are trying to determine whether gases emitted by the drywall are hazardous to humans..."There does seem to be a strong association between the presence of the Chinese drywall and the coil corrosion issues," said David Krause, state toxicologist with the Bureau of Environmental Public Health Medicine.

Lennar’s Stock Falls as Troubles Mount over Accusations of Ponzi Scheme
Saturday, 10 January 2009

Not Zzzz Best Day For Lennar
Minkow claimed that the dealings between Lennar and Briarwood, as described in his letter, are part of a larger pattern in which Lennar treats its joint ventures "like a Ponzi scheme, pledging older joint venture interests to leverage themselves into newer joint venture relationships."

Editorial: Builders to face damage of sulphur-emitting dry wall

Editorial: Builders face drywall issues
Big questions remain about how much damage the sulphur-emitting dry wall actually caused to air conditioners, refrigerators and even home wiring, and whether there was a threat to human health. Builders are already hard-pressed in the current slump. But this dry wall business has the potential of becoming a class-action litigation nightmare. Better to tackle the matter up front, using insurance, special funds, whatever, to satisfy customers once there's a reasonable handle on the issue, than to let lawyers fight it out in court.

Lennar Homes: Fears Widen Over Defective Chinese Drywall
Monday, 22 December 2008

Chinese drywall fears widen in SW Florida
Richard Cesta’s on his third air conditioning coil in a few months at his Bella Terra condominium. The air in his home sometimes smells of sulfur.  Like other Lee County residents, he’s worried he may be victim of Chinese drywall leaking corrosive chemicals into his home and endangering his health. “You can actually see all the copper tubing that deals with the air conditioning system has turned black,” said Cesta, 61, a retired truck driver from Long Island, N.Y., who bought the condo in south Lee County in 2006 and retired there with his wife, Virginia, last summer.

Defective Chinese Drywell Problems
Monday, 22 December 2008

Chinese drywall causes concern in Lee
Chinese drywall installed in houses in Lee County and elsewhere could be causing noxious odors, air conditioning failures and health problems. The problem appears to be from drywall imported during the construction boom years of 2004-05, building experts say. At least one family in Fort Myers was forced to move out while builder Aubuchon Homes determines whether drywall is the culprit... The drywall appears to be emitting sulfur compounds that are corroding coils and other copper-bearing materials, causing them to be replaced repeatedly. One of the builders affected is Lennar Homes, Eldredge said. Representatives of Lennar Homes could not be reached Friday.

Texas Politics and Defective Lennar Homes

KLRU TV (DucuBloggers) - Special Report Texas Two-Step
Texas is not considered a swing state in the presidential election, but a few months ago, I found some poll data on state-level races that seemed awfully close for what would usually be solid Republican areas. Since I’m originally from California, it was a big surprise for me to learn that the Texas Democrats only need 5 seats to win control of the house of representatives in a typically red state...In Hutto, Round Rock, and Taylor, I found people with conservative values - some who told me they would never sway from the Republican Party line, and others who had grown frustrated with existing problems in housing, education or the economy, who were determined to vote Democratic this time around.  View Report

When homeownership joy turns into homeownership hardship
For many, living the American dream means owning a home, but what happens when the home you buy is suddenly worth half of what you paid? That’s what some consumers in a Lennar homes subdivision say has happened to them. They are complaining of faulty home foundations that are shifting their homes and causing all sorts of problems.

Lennar Houses in Hutto Built on Contaminated Soil

Shaky ground: Arsenic and old soil
As if unstable foundations and questionable constructions didn’t make owning a home in the Huttoparke neighborhood complicated enough, questions about the soil quality are also concerning residents of the beleaguered area of north Hutto...Before Lennar built the first homes in the Huttoparke neighborhood in 2005, Terracon consulting firm conducted a soil study to determine if the land, formerly used for cotton cultivation, was safe for residential housing. Russell Ford, senior hydrogeologist for Terracon, addressed the council on June 5 and said the levels of arsenic found in the Huttoparke neighborhood were dangerously high.

WWII bombing range has people up in arms
Since the US Army Corps of Engineers began sweeping the Orlando neighborhoods a year ago, they've found more than 200 munitions and other potentially volatile remnants. Some weighed up to 23 pounds. Most were recovered on the grounds of a middle school, including one lodged beneath the landing pit for the long jump.

Why Realtor Will Not Sell Homes in Hutto, Kyle or any Starter Home Area
Saturday, 30 August 2008

Huttoparke Problems Continue, Values Suffer
It is with great fascination that I first saw last year Huttoparke home owners made sure that everyone knew how poorly their homes were built. They may have had no choice but to bring public attention to the problems they were having. In 2006/2007, when our phones rang daily with investors calling to buy in Austin, many didn’t like what I had to say when I told them I wasn’t interested in helping them buy a home in Hutto, Kyle or any other starter home area with supposed better cash flow. “It’s a bad idea” I would say...I hope the owners in Huttoparke find resolution and all problems are resolved. I feel sorry for them. First time buyers have enough to think about without having to do legal battle with builders.

BBB and TRCC Complaints of Little Help to Lennar Homeowners
Friday, 29 August 2008

Homeowners file house complaints with BBB
Copperfield area homeowner Imran Moola had problems with vents tilting and bending, then giving way to water leaks in the house he had built and had lived in for less than two years, but a roof leak around the stove exhaust was of particular concern to him. Several inspections showed that the roof wasn’t properly installed, and though it was under warranty for 10 years, a company representative told him that the repair was his responsibility, not Lennar Homes, the builder... Lennar has an unsatisfactory rating with the BBB, partly due to outstanding unresolved complaints or outstanding unanswered complaints,...
