NPR - Texas Homebuilder Perry's Money and Political Influence
Since 2000, no one in Texas has contributed more money to political campaigns than Homebuilder Bob Perry, and have average nearly $4M in contributions in a given election cycle to Texas candidates. Perry’s main interest has been Tort Reform to limit liability for the homebuilding industry. In Texas he led a campaign to actually regulate the home buying public. To create an agency here in Texas that hinders homebuyers from getting warranty work done.  So, a warranty is no longer enforceable in the state of Texas . That is coming to the rest of the country.  So I believe…that if the wealthy Texas based homebuilders are able to limit liability in Texas that they are also influencing the political arena in other states to do the same thing.

Homebuilder Bob Perry & Big Money Influence Nationwide

A political Mr. Buffett?
Houston homebuilder Bob Perry came to national attention two years ago when he gave more than $4 million to a group called "Swift Boat Veterans for Truth."Now he's back in the news around the country in connection with $5 million in donations he gave to an outfit called the Economic Freedom Fund... If his $5 million this year is seen as helping hold on to Republican control of the House of Representatives, the reclusive homebuilder will be to political "investing" what Warren Buffett is to the stock market.

Indiana AG files lawsuit against Swiftboaters
Carter also is seeking a preliminary injunction against the California-based group, Economic Freedom Fund, which is financed by Bob J. Perry, a Texas homebuilder with close ties to White House adviser Karl Rove. Perry also bankrolled the Swift Boat attack ads against the war record of Democratic presidential nominee Sen. John Kerry in 2004.

Mega-donor trend spurs call for cap on political spending
Houston home builder Bob Perry, who gives more to Texas politicians than anyone else, has a strong interest in limiting lawsuits against his company. Perry, who gives mostly to Republicans in statewide and legislative races, was a major proponent of legislation in 2003 creating a new state agency to handle complaints against builders outside of the courts.  See more featured articles on Homebuilder Bob Perry - Bob Perry Feature Page &  Bob Perry - Latest News

Perry, Donors and Immigration

Robison: Perry defies donors over immigration
But by giving big bucks to Perry, they, ironically, have helped the governor foster a political climate of xenophobia that is killing their cause. In an effort orchestrated or encouraged by the Manhattan Institute, a New York-based free market think tank, 36 Texas business leaders recently co-signed an op-ed article praising immigrant workers and urging reform of immigration laws.

Perry defies donors over immigration
Those donors — some of Texas' most prominent Republican business people — want a new guest-worker program or a path to citizenship for foreign workers because they think the state's economy and, in some cases, their own labor-intensive industries depend upon immigrant help. Collectively, the above eight contributors have given Perry more than $1 million since 2003, the beginning of his current term. And they already have received handsome returns on their investments.

Former Swift Boat attack-ad backer takes on House Democrats
Perry's $5 million donation, made in two payments on Aug. 18 and Sept. 5, is among the largest, if not the largest, donation from an individual to any 527 group this year, although contribution records are still being filed. It exceeds the nearly $4.5 million that Perry gave the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth in 2004, when he provided the seed money to help launch the group and was its biggest donor. And it's more than double the amount that billionaire Democratic donor George Soros has given to 527 groups this year, according to the Web site Political MoneyLine, which tracks campaign finances.

Big Money for Big Builder Agency
Monday, 04 September 2006

Editorial: Money trail
Of Perry’s millions, about 40 percent — $10 million —  comes from 85 individuals, reports The Dallas Morning News. Many of those donors had favorable legislation in mind in giving all that money away. One such individual is home builder Bob Perry, Texas’ biggest political donor. He has given Gov. Perry (no relation) $700,000 since he became governor. Meanwhile, the governor pushed for legislation desired by the home builder: creation of a home building commission to take some consumer complaints out of court. Then Gov. Perry appointed one of Perry Homes’ executives to the commission.  History: Related reading ...  Read More...

Wrath of the Soccer Moms
How a group of parents took on Tom Craddick and the state's Republican leadership
During the final week of the campaign, five separate direct-mail pieces flooded Arlington on Grusendorf’s behalf, all sponsored by something called the Texas Opportunity PAC. The PAC had been around since 2000, but hadn’t reported receiving or spending any money until February 17 of this year. On that day, it received $25,000 contributions from both real estate magnate Michael Stevens and homebuilder Bob Perry, the biggest campaign donor in the state for the past three years. (Bob Perry also gave more than $152,000 directly to Charlie Geren’s opponent.) Lobbyist Mike Toomey directed, and also contributed to, the PAC. (Toomey, a former chief of staff for Gov. Perry, was a leader of the 2002 corporate-funded campaign by Texans for a Republican Majority and the Texas Association of Business that boosted Craddick into the speaker’s chair.) In all, the Texas Opportunity PAC supplied a lot of aid to a select slate of GOP incumbents, including $170,000 worth of mailers
