Family wins mold case
After three years, health problems persist. A family that bought a nearly $375,000 newly constructed home on a one-acre lot near Howell lived there for just 10 months before toxic mold forced them out. A poorly built roof allowed rain to seep into the walls and floors on all three levels of the home. Last week -- nearly three years after the ordeal began -- Tom and Kimberly Szymczak were awarded a consent judgment of $775,000 against Brighton builder Andrew Tonkovich and his company, A&T Development Inc. |

Flowery Branch lawyer faces up to 22 years for fraud, ID theft
Peebles was a plaintiff's lawyer who specialized in construction litigation and represented many who suffered physical injury and property damage due to mold infestations in their homes. Unbeknownst to his clients, Peebles would settle their cases, forge their signatures on the checks, and eventually convert the money to his own use. When the clients called and asked about the settlement money, Peebles would lie to them, and if necessary, pay the complaining client with settlement proceeds that belonged to his other clients. |

Air samples from in and around one thousand eight hundred fifty five (1, 855) buildings were collected by spore trap technique (Air-O-Cell) over a period of 10 years (1995-2005) covering 45 states of North America. Nine thousand two hundred thirty two (9,232) samples were analyzed qualitatively as well as quantitatively to study the air-borne fungi in and around building environment. |

Toxic mold comp suit can go forward, court rules

3 awarded $375,000 in lawsuit over mold
The lawsuit, filed in February 2005, said that the apartments in a converted schoolhouse in the East Baltimore-Midway neighborhood had water leaks, standing water and mold since the late 1990s. The suit sought $3.2 million for residents Louise Bills, Mary Roy and Johnnie Pratt. |

Builder schedules massive mold cleanup
Mold is growing again in some of Pulte Homes' Apple Valley developments, prompting the company to schedule examinations of 590 homes. This time, the mold appears to be growing in the shower, between the panels and the wall...Mary Ann Greco said although the letter did not say the problem had to do with mold, once they called in, Pulte customer service informed them that it was indeed the pesky fungus. |

Study: Mold in Homes Doubles Risk of Asthma
Exposure to mold and dampness in homes as much as doubles the risk of asthma development in children, according to a study published today in the March issue of the peer-reviewed journal Environmental Health Perspectives (EHP). Researchers studied 1,984 Finnish children aged 1 to 7 years over a six-year period to see if they developed asthma. Data collection included a baseline survey administered in March 1991, as well as a follow-up survey in March 1997, asking questions about the child's health, parents' health, parent's highest education level, and details of the child's environment including exposure to environmental tobacco. |

Mold creates nightmare at new home in Farragut
The Houses moved into their $400,000 home three months ago. They have a one-year homeowners warranty, yet they're stuck with the bill to clean up the mold. "The builder says he hired the sub but that's where his responsibility ends," Sherrie says. "He doesn't owe us anything." ...Sherrie now questions the whole point of the builder's homeowner's warranty. "This home is two-months-old. We shouldn't t have problems." |
