Mortgage fraud scheme lands 6 in jail
On Wednesday, US Marshals and attorneys lead suspects in through the back of the federal courthouse to face a ten count indictment for a mortgage fraud scheme that began in 2004. It is alleged that six people committed $25 million in mortgage fraud across Houston and its suburbs. They would then get a phony appraisal that would almost double the homeâs actual value. In that case, $400,000. |

Houston: Owners stuck with flawed homes |
Sunday, 27 April 2008 |
Families' costs mount, but state, builder give scant help, files show
For years, neighbors in a stylish Montrose cul-de-sac named Hyde Park Crescent fought to get something out of the developer they claim failed to fix faulty windows, water-soaked balconies and defective roofs that spawned leaks, mold and rot in their nearly new $350,000 homes. Families alleged in a lawsuit that they were sold flawed town homes and then stuck with thousands of dollars in repair bills. They also contended that the men behind the company committed a kind of corporate identity fraud to avoid responsibility and keep right on building on other fertile ground in construction-friendly Houston... Texas laws offer minimal recourse for homeowners, and their complaints often drag on for years with disappointing results, advocates say. Some owners lose money fixing their homes or lose their homes because they can't afford to fix them. See Houston Chronicle Readers Comments Plus: See: You Tube Video on Tremont Towers |

Texas Review:the laws of Texas are against you |
Wednesday, 01 February 2006 |
TRCC . . the laws of Texas are against you I was in the TRCC process. I now have no home and live in an apartment. Googlel Jordan Fogal for more information on my new $360.000 uninhabitable house...I have filed a complaint against my builder Tremont/Stature/University Development or, whomever they are calling themselves this week, with the TRCC. My builder circumvented state law and the TRCC did nothing. They canât talk about this file because it is under investigation. How many years will they use that as an excuse, refusing to take action against the practices of this poster child for bad building...It is one thing to be made homeless by an act of God, like Katrina but it is totally different when it is by an act of greed. |

Condo owner denied access to her property |
Monday, 10 October 2005 |
Tremont Tower's management bars a condo owner from her own unit Every week for nearly a month, Mickelson and the guard have had the same face-off: The blond executive assistant walks up to the door of her building and asks to get in. She hasn't committed crimes or thrown wild parties. She's up to date on her homeowners association fees and doesn't even own a pet. Other people just like her live in the same upper floor of the same building. They come and go as they please. And yet, like a persecuted character from a Kafka novel, she's mysteriously turned away. |

Better Business Bureau Takes Action |
Thursday, 07 July 2005 |
Contractors From Hellâ¦Not at the BBB! Tremont failed to take the ethically correct route and chose to pursue their case through the AAA. Due process was followed at the BBB and they were ultimately revoked from the Bureau. The language on their BBB report reflects the same. Ms. Fogle continues to wage war with Tremont, only to find herself being personally sued for her troubles. Tremont has also sued another of their residents in Tremont Towers for painting lemons on her windows. Last report to this office indicated that the judge at that hearing commended her on her artwork. |

More troubles for Tremont Homes |
Thursday, 30 June 2005 |
Not quite lemonade, but at least some conciliation âYouâre simply not going to see companies like this remain in the Better Business Bureau,â said BBB spokeswoman Kim Lawrence of Tremont Homes, Stature Construction and several other listings involving the same principals...âTheyâve got 14 or 16 corporations, but in our eyes they are still one member,â she said. |

Mother Jones Magazine Features Jordan Fogal |
Saturday, 25 June 2005 |
Home Sour Home When Jordan Fogal's new house turned out to be a lemon, her builders and theTexas authorities thought they could handle things quietly. They didn't know Jordan Fogal.... Seduced by beauty, certain of value, the Fogals bought the home in April 2002 for $368,564, investing nearly everything they had... Jordan had looked forward to a leisurely life taking care of her new house and writing memoirs, but when the builders would not fix the structure, and when no authority would compel them to do it, Jordan experienced, for the first time, an in-justice she could not endure. On a street corner near her house, the 59-year-old Republican began picketing for all she was worth.â A most compelling article. Donât miss this one... |
