http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/local/302442_housing05.html  I just saw this on hadd.com's news page, & continue to be appalled at the "BS" builders use as an excuse to kill any kind of consumer protection.  A senator quoted in the article actually used the term "BS."   Gotta love that!  One good sign is how ANGRY the builders are about this bill.  If there was no chance of it getting passed the builders would ignore it like a pesky fly.

One bit of truth from the builder side; if they were suddenly accountable for errors many builders and subs would go bankrupt really quick. Sounds fair, but most of the guys that have successfully schemed and scammed and manipulated our government in ways none of us probably could completely know, will not really be affected. Most top execs already cashed out 10s of millions in anticipation of the new housing bubble burst. Would be more interesting if the bubble burst due to consumer protection laws that have been strategically circumvented for all these years. The price for new homes is too high when it costs consumer victims everything.

I reserve the right to make as many errors in my statements as builders make in new home construction.

The builders whine that they would be put out of business if held accountable, (i.e. if not allowed to commit fraud).  That is the same as drug dealers saying that making their profession illegal is putting innocent drug dealers out of business and is unfair.  Sheesh!  If a company's doing bad business, they deserve to be put OUT of business, period.  Why protect them just because it's how they've made a living all this time?  All they really have to do is do their job right.  Then they won't have to worry!
