On the front page  of HOBB is an article on how the BBB  in Houston helped a homeowner get his house fixed.
I am here to tell you the BBB did not help me and in fact empowered my builder to continue his shoddy practices.
My experience  at the BBB was documented and sent to National Consumer Groups. It was nothing less then dispicable. It was shameless  and toothless.
I had to sit through lies, lies and more lies from my builder. The so called mediator was on a total power trip. It was a show to be had.
With other places to mediate in Houston why go to a place where people pay  dues to promote their business?
Good for those that it worked for but NO ONE should feel a need to compromise on what they were promised in their contract.  My builder has almost all complaints closed out by the head of the bureau. That means they are protected. My builder also had the subdivison with the #1 foreclosure rate in Houston, with another in close second.
What does that mean???
Please feel free to comment on these 2 articles dealing with the BBB.

By the way I know at least one of these victims. How come they do not get on hobb, on the forum? What gives with these people?Huh?

Consider yourself fortunate. When I filed a complaint with the BBB in Kansas City, they forwarded the complaint to Michigan because that is where their home office is.  Huh?  This told me immediately if there were any complaints against the builder you would have had to search the Michigan BBB. Why in sam hill would I search Michigan when I was purchasing a house in Kansas?  The BBB protected the builder and probably still does.  However,  after the  the entities, including the city and county protected this builder (and we all know who the builder is), the builder stuck them in the back, said screw you, packed up their bat and ball and left town.  Sorry got off onto a trangent.

bottom line. consider yourself fortunate.

Susan, I did not feel fortunate, I felt victimized again. But that is OK. When you have a power trip personality and do not think and send things in emails that will disclose you to the public we have something to go on.
More later on this one, believe me.

Marc.  I apologize. I must have been smoking something (not really)when I read your post and read it incorrectly.  No, you are not fortunate, you are another victim.

Susan, I just posted on the BBB again. It is on the front page of HOBB and in the Houston Chronicle story.

When I talked to the BBB, they said they could put my complaint on file but nothing more. Nobody ever saw it. The BBB didn't matter at all. That is a hard part of being on the business end of this business. While commuting from an apartment to our wrecked townhome, Ryan Homes was building about 200+ more townhomes just like ours or bigger on the roads passed.

It just seemed surreal that Ryan Homes could know they built a disaster just a quarter mile down the road, but just basically flip us off and keep building without any consequences whatsoever. If I drove anywhere near as reckless and careless as they had built homes, I would have lost my license to drive. We’re a nation of laws meant to make us all equal, but those laws are clearly still relative.

I reserve the right to make as many errors in my statements as builders make in new home construction.

Ron,
If any of us did to others what these builders did to us we would probably be locked in a place and gone for quite a while.
