Ryan Homes has very obviously resorted to going online, posing as happy customers, to negate the negative info coming out about them the only place it can, online. I'm happy with many things I own, some not so much but still, I don't troll complaint sites about products or services that are good to write reviews that counter other's complaints. Who would, or why would any real consumer want to discredit someone who had a major problem with a product or service?

We've all seen this phenomenon a long time, I know, and not really the subject I wanted to post. That was, our homeowners association already has charged us over fifteen thousand in maintenance fees since we've been here, with our HOA president being assigned permanently by Ryan Homes. As all homes just passed ten years in age, (there theoretical warranty period) the paper siding, and paper and sawdust trim all needs replacing, or so they decided. The forced HOA , where homeowners pay for repairs, is the only thing that prevents Ryan Homes projects from becoming vacant or slums here after ten whole years.

The homeowners association is now billing us a mandatory $5,000 per homeowner to fix this shoddy construction issue, in addition to the normal maintenance fees. Ryan Homes has had our finances in ruin for years with the inside shoddy work five years into ownership. Three and one half years of our first ten years of ownership were spent in an apartment, while we tried to fix the defects issues.

Mostly paint kept the rotting outside materials hidden, while a lot was replaced, but you could poke your finger through a lot of rotted or dissolved construction material that was just painted over. This forced repair, though needed, is really harmful. it's like being legally fined again for someone else's shoddy product-get rich quick scheme. Maybe it's coincidental they waited for all home's warranties to expire before deciding to stop patching and do a real repair plan.

If my first home had this same issue, I would fix it far cheaper than what their requiring, but the trim and siding on my house was in good shape at 50+ years old. Paint and caulk were not the only things holding my old house together. Thanks to innovation of rip-off  planned technology, now it is.

Maybe it's just the world I'm seeing, but it seems more that we are throwing out civil liberties of the individual, and operating on a system based on favoritism and position. We are not eliminating discrimination that still had strong roots in the early 60's, but is now modernizing and shifting its focus, IMO. Public service meant service to the public in the first half of my life. Now there is more the sense that people are deciding "it's better to rule in Hell, than to serve in Heaven" as this is just one hassle, usually profit related, that is degrading the quality of life here.

my take on the problem: we live in a society of the self-absorbed. it's all about me, me, me. I don't care that my brother is being cheated. I don't want to know about injustice, as long as it doesn't impact me directly. even then, I don't have the time or inclination to speak up--I'm much too absorbed in myself and my own little world.

then there's spin--not only the builders, but it's EVERYWHERE. one million visitors to this website every month. yeah, right! in your dreams! what makes this spin any different than the builders' spin?

have we passed the point of no return with self-absorption and spin? looks to me like we have.
